Kerala floods, August 2018

One of the most severe flood events in the state’s recent history.

This post focuses on Thrissur district, showing:

1. Pre flood conditions

2. Post flood conditions

3. Flood inundation extent derived from satellite data

The maps highlight how widespread inundation developed during peak monsoon rainfall and river overflow.

Remote sensing helps visualise these impacts at scale and supports flood assessment efforts.

Note:

These maps are shared for informational and educational purposes.

Uncertainties in satellite data and model outputs have not been fully addressed.

The results should be viewed as methodological awareness, not as definitive flood boundaries.
